Ingredients

  • milk
  • chocolate use disks or chopped. Very important to use good quality chocolate. Anything between 52% to 70% will work for this recipe. I would recommend using Valrhona or Callebaut chocolate. Supermarket chocolate bars like Lindt or Whole Foods will work too.
  • corn starch– ingredient to thick hot chocolate.

What milk to use for thick hot chocolate?

Any milk will work with this recipe: whole milk, low fat milk or skim milk. You can also use almond milk or any other milk of your choice. I would not recommend using heavy cream because it will be more of a pudding consistency. If you do not drink milk, you can use your favorite plant-based milk substitute.

How to make thick hot chocolate

In the saucepan add milk and warm up over medium heat.

Pour about ½ cup of warm milk into cup and add corn starch. Mix well with the help of spoon or small whisk.

Bring rest of the milk to boil over medium high heat. Remove from the stove.

Add chocolate into hot milk and mix well. Add corn starch mixture and mix again. Make sure it well dissolved in the milk. The hot chocolate will be super rich and thick. Serve immediately, topped with your favorite garnishes or toppings.

Toppings to use :

Tip from Marina: for grown-up kids add a shot of Baileys, Kahlua or brandy.
