Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Ingredients

Labeled ingredients on the table.
  • Milk: Any milk will work with this recipe: whole milk, low-fat milk, or skim milk. You can also use almond milk or any other milk of your choice. I would not recommend using heavy cream because it will be more of a pudding consistency. If you do not drink milk, you can use your favorite plant-based milk substitute.
  • Chocolate: Use disks or chopped. Very important to use good-quality chocolate. Anything between 52% to 70% will work for this recipe. I would recommend using Valrhona or Callebaut chocolate. Supermarket chocolate bars like Lindt or Whole Foods will work, too.
  • Corn Starch: This is an ingredient to thicken hot chocolate.

Bring the rest of the milk to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from the stove. Add chocolate to hot milk and mix well. Add the corn starch mixture and mix again. Make sure it is well dissolved in the milk. The hot chocolate will be super rich and thick. Serve immediately, topped with your favorite garnishes or toppings.

Toppings for Hot Chocolate

Tip from Marina: for grown-up kids, add a shot of Baileys, Kahlua, or brandy.
