I have to be honest; I have never made a pie before. Not long ago, my husband asked me if I knew how to make it. I told him that I could try.  Some recipes include shortening, but not the one I share today. This Pie Crust Recipe Dough is straightforward to make with simple ingredients. What could be better than homemade pie?

How to Make This Recipe

To make pie crust dough in the Thermomix: Place flour, salt, and sugar into a Thermomix bowl and place the cover on. Knead function for 10 seconds. Add the cold diced butter and continue the same kneading function for 30 seconds or until butter is cut into small pea-sized clumps. Slowly drizzle the ice water and knead more for a few seconds. 

Tip from Marina: You can make the dough a day or two ahead and keep the dough disks chilled in the refrigerator.

To make pie crust dough in a food processor, Place sugar, flour, and salt into the bowl of a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Add cold diced butter and pulse again. Press a small piece of dough between your fingers; if the mixture doesn’t hold together, then add a bit more water. Transfer dough onto a pastry mat and knead 2-3 times just to help it come together. Cover with plastic wrap. Place in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes to an hour. This pie dough recipe makes two single crusts or one double crust. Just keep this in mind before wrapping it in plastic. You can divide the dough into two pieces before refrigerating. Roll out your chilled pie dough into a disk about ¼ inch thick.  Place into your pie dish. Add your favorite filling.

You can cut strips from another half of your dough. I’ve used a cookie cutter to decorate. This part is totally up to you, how you want your pie to look. Bake pie at 350°F for about 40-50 minutes or until golden brown.

Tip from Marina: Brush the top of the pie with egg wash. Why? The egg wash gives a shiny finish. Your pie will be so beautiful!

Ingredients
  

  • 300 gr (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 226 gr (2 sticks) dices into ¼” pieces cold unsalted butter
  • 12 gr (1 Tablespoon) granulated sugar
  • 2 gr (1/4 teaspoon) kosher salt
  • 120 gr (1/2 cup) ice cold water

Instructions
 

  • For Thermomix: Place flour, salt, and sugar into a Thermomix bowl and place the cover on. Knead function for 10 sec. Add the cold diced butter and continue the same knead function for 30 sec or until butter is cut into small pea-sized clumps.
  • Slowly drizzle the ice water and knead more for a few sec.
  • For food processor: place sugar, flour, and salt and pulse a few times to combine. Add cold diced butter and pulse again. Add ice water and pulse again.
  • Transfer dough onto a pastry mat and knead 2-3 times just to help it come together.
  • Cover in plastic wrap. Place in the fridge to chill for 30 min to an hour.
  • Roll out your chilled pie dough into a disk about ¼ inch thick. 
  • Place into your pie dish.
  • Add your favorite filling. 
  • Decorate.
  • Brush the pie with the egg wash.
  • Bake at 350oF for about 45-50 min or until golden brown.

Get all ingredients and tools ready before baking.
