I remember last year I was looking for Gingerbread spice and couldn’t find in the store. This year I’ve decided to make my own Homemade Gingerbread Spice Mix and share this recipe with you. This spice is easy to make and it will be a great addition to your holiday baking. And if you ever run out of this spice, you can always make more. Skip store-bought spice and make Homemade Gingerbread Mix.

Ingredients note

  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger
  • Allspice
  • Cloves
  • Nutmeg
  • Cardamom/Coriander/Black pepper. These are completely optional spices.

It is very important to use all ground ingredients for the mix. You can also use a grinder if needed. Some spices I get from the store and grind myself, as this gives more flavor. I would highly recommend to check inspiration date for spices before making mix.

How to make this recipe

I have to tell you that making Homemade Gingerbread Spice is very easy and could be done with just a small mixing bowl and a whisk or fork. However, before you start making this spice, make sure you have all ingredients and a glass jar for storing. Also important to make sure that the jar is clean and dry. You do not need any moisture in the spice. When you have everything ready, only then make spice. In the small mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. Make sure that you measure all ingredients correctly. You can use a kitchen scale too. Then mix with the whisk until all is combined. After that, sift the mixture through a sifter. This is an important step and do not skip it. Transfer gingerbread spice mix to a glass jar and cover with the lid. That is all! Your spice is ready! You can use it right away or store it for later.

How to store spice mix

Store Gingerbread Spice Mix sealed in the glass jar in a dark and dry space. I would recommend to store not more than one year. Because spices lose flavor over time it’s always better to make a fresh mix and use it. When you make this spice, do not forget to label the jar with the date and name of this mix.
